The two types of knee replacement surgery include: partial knee or uni knee replacement surgery and total knee replacement surgery.
When only a part of the knee joint is damaged or arthritic, a partial knee replacement can be a good treatment option. The procedure involves removal of the damaged cartilage of the affected knee, resurfacing the remaining areas and implanting the artificial parts or prothesis into the damaged areas of the knee. This type of surgery is also called a Uni knee replacement surgery. When the joint is completely damaged or severely arthritis, a complete or total knee replacement surgery is needed where all the joint surfaces are replaced with implants or prosthesis.
