Advanced Joint Replacement Surgery for Knee, Hip & Shoulder

Joint replacement surgery is a treatment process that is performed to improve joint stability and mobility and relieve chronic pain in the joints Anyone who deals with persistent joint pain and restricted range of motion due to loss of joint cartilage, needs to undergo joint replacement surgery at one point of time as no other method can permanently restore the functioning of damaged joints. If you’re considering joint replacement surgery in Hyderabad, it may be the right time to consult an experienced orthopedic surgeon and take the first step toward an active, pain-free life.

There are different types of joint replacement surgeries depending on which joint needs to be replaced and whether you need only a part of the joint replaced or a completely new joint.

What Is Joint Replacement Surgery?

Total joint replacement surgery, also called as total joint arthroplasty, is a treatment process that involves the removal and replacement of all the damaged/injured joints with artificial implants (prosthesis).

Hip Replacement Surgery Options

Hip replacement surgery is recommended to fix a damaged dislocated hip or badly communited hip fracture or a severely arthritic hip joint. It’s usually done when, the joint pain doesn’t respond to nonsurgical treatment options.

Partial Hip Replacement:

Also called hemiarthroplasty, is a process involving the replacement of the femoral head (ball) only and leaving the acetabulum (socket) untouched. This type of surgery is recommended in older adults with hip fractures having healthy sockets.

Knee Replacement Surgery in Hyderabad

Knee replacement surgery is a kind of joint replacement treatment for people suffering from severe knee osteoarthritis due to previous neglected injuries like knee fracture, knee dislocation, ligament tears etc or due to systemic illnesses like rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis etc or due to aging process.

The two types of knee replacement surgery include: partial knee or uni knee replacement surgery and total knee replacement surgery.

When only a part of the knee joint is damaged or arthritic, a partial knee replacement can be a good treatment option. The procedure involves removal of the damaged cartilage of the affected knee, resurfacing the remaining areas and implanting the artificial parts or prothesis into the damaged areas of the knee. This type of surgery is also called a Uni knee replacement surgery. When the joint is completely damaged or severely arthritis, a complete or total knee replacement surgery is needed where all the joint surfaces are replaced with implants or prosthesis.

Robotic-assisted Knee Surgery:

It is a modern surgical process that involves usage of computer navigation and a robotic arm system for total or partial knee replacement surgery. It is a customized surgical procedure that focuses on the 3D representation of the shape and profile of your knee. The robotic assistance and personalized 3D-representation of the knee during the procedure, helps the surgeons increase their accuracy to implant the prosthesis. The robotic equipment bend and rotate more efficiently than a human hand, ensuring better precision, control and vision during the surgical procedure. With this method, the healthy parts around the area are unharmed.

Shoulder Replacement for Pain Relief

There are two types of shoulder replacement surgeries: Total shoulder replacement and Reverse shoulder replacement surgery. A reverse shoulder replacement surgery is a process where the position of the ‘ball and socket’ in the shoulder joint is reversed and replaced with prosthetic implants. During surgery, a prosthetic ‘ball’ is attached at the blade of your shoulder, and a prosthetic ‘socket’ is built at the top end of the upper arm bone. When the position of the ball and socket are switched over, the shoulder is free to bypass the damaged joint/injured tendons and muscles. The shoulder then uses the deltoid muscle located at the top of the upper arm instead of the damaged rotator cuff muscles. In a total shoulder replacement surgery, the shoulder ball and socket joint surfaces are replaced with prosthetic implants to replicate the natural joint architecture. The surgery helps to balance the shoulder joint and regains its functions and range of motion.

Elbow Replacement Surgery

An elbow replacement surgery may be a less common treatment method but it can treat a painful elbow successfully. Total elbow replacement surgery or total elbow arthroplasty is a process that starts with sedating the patient with general or local anesthesia. During the process, an incision is made on the elbow, and the artificial implants or prosthesis is inserted and fixed. They use a hinge to connect the ends of the new elbow. It helps regain the lost movements but without the pain.

Ankle Replacement Surgery

Ankle replacement surgery is a treatment process that is used to treat severe ankle injuries or damaged cartilage or arthritis. The damaged bones and cartilage are removed to make space for the prosthesis. Artificial parts of the joint are placed on the front area of the talus (foot bone), and the lower end of the shin bone to complete the replacement procedure. The ankle bones’ ends are reshaped as it is essential to attach the artificial ankle joint to the bone.

Wrist Replacement Surgery:

Some traumatic wrist injuries can cause huge damage to the wrist bones and joint that needs surgical treatment. Wrist replacement surgery starts with sedating the patient with general anesthesia to numb the area to be treated. An incision is then made in the back portion of the wrist, and the first row of the carpal bones is removed. In the middle of the radius bone at the wrist, the radial section of the artificial parts is inserted. Then, the artificial carpal section is inserted into the empty area of the carpal bones. Using bone cement to glue the implants to the bones, the artificial joint and components are held in position.
