Ankle & Foot Joint

The ankle is a hinged joint allowing upward and downward movement and the foot bones form pillars on either side and twist around ligaments giving a ‘locking & unlocking’ movement during walking.

Bone

Ankle is formed by Tibia, Talus and Fibula bones and foot has 26 bones.

Cartilage

All joint surfaces are covered by joint cartilage.

Ligaments

Ankle is stabilized by ligament on the sides and all around. This is the most common site of ligaments injuries.

Muscle Tendons

Strong leg tendons cross the ankle joint and many small muscle help move the foot during walking, running and jumping.
