Anand loves football.
He plays football matches regularly with his friends.
During one of his matches, he developed sudden severe pain in his groin while kicking the ball .
He continued playing but had severe pain by next day.
He was limping and decided to rest for 2 days .
Pain continues and he consulted me.
After thorough examination and special x-rays were done.
His x-rays showed he had impingement of hip bones resulting in bony outgrowth and pain.
He needed surgery to remove the extra bone.
Open surgery was too damaging and involved cutting important hip muscles and dislocating the joint! This would have caused lot of stiffness and disability to him.
We performed a hip arthroscopic (key hole) surgery to visualized the joint.
He had a tear of his labrum cartilage also.
Therefore, the labrum cartilage was repaired first and then the bony outgrowth was removed.
He was put on crutches for 3 weeks.
Post surgery was comfortable and he returned playing to football again after 4 months of supervised exercise program.
